The Center for Justice and Advocacy at Certa Foundation, successfully conducted an internal capacity-building workshop on January 30, 2024. The training aimed to enhance the skills of the Foundation’s pro-bono lawyers placed at eight (8) districts of intervention in effectively handling Sexual Gender-Based Violence (SGBV)cases.

The primary objective was to empower legal professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate SGBV cases adeptly. By offering essential insights, honing critical skills, and providing relevant resources, the workshop aimed to ensure that victims receive the necessary support and justice while holding perpetrators accountable. Key aspects highlighted during the training included:

1.     Encouraging pro-bono lawyers to acquire a profound understanding of legal frameworks and precedents relevant to  SGBV cases, ensuring expert navigation through complex legal proceedings.

2.     Recognizing the significant impact of trauma on victims and urging lawyers to adopt trauma-informed practices,  fostering empathy, sensitivity, and understanding during interactions.

3.     Emphasizing the paramount importance of confidentiality to safeguard the well-being and dignity of survivors.

4.     Providing insights into effective courtroom advocacy techniques, encouraging lawyers to passionately advocate for  victims' rights while ensuring fair and just legal proceedings.

5.     Acknowledging the dynamic nature of legal practice and stressing the importance of continuous learning and  professional development to stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in GBV advocacy.

In a nutshell, the internal capacity-building training served as a crucial platform for pro-bono lawyers to enhance their capabilities in handling SGBV cases, contributing to a more robust and effective response to SGBV within the legal realm.
