Center for Law and Innovation Participates in East Africa Data Protection Exchange Conference
The Center for Law and Innovation (CLI), represented by our Director, Ridwan Oloyede, participated at the East African Data Protection Exchange Conference, held in Kigali from October 16-18, 2024. This event convened 70 representatives from the eight East African Community (EAC) member states to address pressing issues in regional data protection.
Key discussions highlighted the urgent need for harmonized data protection regulations to support secure cross-border data exchange and the alignment of national data policies with the African Union’s framework. Participants also explored strategies to raise public awareness of data privacy rights and reviewed successful case studies demonstrating best practices in data governance.
The conference concluded with member states committing to strengthening data protection frameworks and deepening regional collaboration to advance data governance across East Africa.
