On 29th January 2025, our Director, Ridwan Oloyede, attended the Kenya AI Statement of Principles Workshop in Nairobi, a pivotal event shaping the future of artificial intelligence governance in Africa. The workshop, themed "AI in Africa," brought together policymakers, international partners, and industry leaders to discuss Kenya’s AI strategy, statement of principles, and data governance framework. The Deputy British High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr. Ed Barnett, emphasized the need for responsible AI governance, highlighting the UK-Kenya AI partnership. At the same time, French Ambassador to Kenya and Somalia, H.E. Arnaud Suquet, praised Kenya’s dynamic tech ecosystem and its role in driving AI for social good.

Kenyan officials reinforced the nation’s commitment to AI leadership, with Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, stressing that Kenya aims not only to adopt AI but to actively shape its development with a focus on security, inclusivity, and sustainability. William Kabogo, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications & The Digital Economy, echoed this sentiment, calling for Africa to transition from AI consumers to creators, leveraging AI to address local challenges and drive sustainable progress.

With key discussions set to continue at the AI Summit in Paris (February 2025), we remain committed to contributing to global conversations that promote AI as a tool for equitable and responsible progress in Rwanda and beyond.
