Empower Her Initiative
In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Center for Law and Innovation launched the Empower Her program in partnership with Equity Bank, embracing the theme “Inspire for inclusion: invest in Women to accelerate progress”.
Empower Her, an innovative and transformative initiative pioneered by the Center for Law and Innovation, is dedicated to empowering women in cross-border communities This project initiated an immersive two-day training program on March 4th and 5th in the Northern part of Rwanda, Gicumbi district, where 150 women involved in trade attended to receive training that encompassed legal compliance, digital literacy, finance, and SRHR. The aim was to support women traders to formalize and digitize their businesses, as well as expose them to the essential skills that would enable them to trade with confidence and success. Each Session enabled participants to learn more about their business.
Given the focus was on women traders, the CLI team partnered with colleagues from the Center for Justice and Advocacy to deliver a session on Gender-Based Violence, providing insights on how to report in the event they experience abuse.
We were delighted to welcome distinguished guests including the Mayor of Gicumbi (Uwera Parfaite) and the Governor of the Northern Province (Maurice Mugabowagahunde), as well as senior officials in the northern province. The guests of honour emphasized the indispensable contribution of women towards driving economic growth and underscored a firm commitment to sustained collaboration. They confirmed appreciation for the initiative that is focused on fostering gender equality, facilitating economic empowerment, and empowering women to play an instrumental role in shaping a more prosperous and inclusive global future.
