Internal Training on Contract Drafting
On September 9th, the Center for Law and Innovation (CLI) hosted an in-depth internal training session on contract drafting led by Isobel Acquah, the Executive Director of the Certa Foundation. The session aimed to enhance the legal drafting skills of CLI members and provide them with a deeper understanding of the critical elements involved in contract drafting.
The training covered fundamental aspects of contract structure, including essential clauses, key terminology, and the use of recitals. Isobel Acquah highlighted the importance of precise language in ensuring that contracts clearly reflect the parties' intentions. In addition to covering contractual provisions, the session provided participants with practical insights into the legal and strategic reasons for selecting specific jurisdictions for dispute resolution, discussing how jurisdictional choices can influence the enforceability and interpretation of contracts.
Participants also explored various dispute resolution mechanisms, such as arbitration, mediation, and litigation, learning the advantages and disadvantages of each in different legal and business contexts. Isobel offered practical advice on approaching the negotiation, drafting, and execution phases of contract preparation, emphasising the importance of clarity, mutual understanding, and foresight in mitigating potential disputes.
This session was designed to elevate the CLI team's contract drafting skills, equipping them with practical knowledge and strategies that will enhance their legal practices. By fostering greater precision and a deeper understanding of legal nuances, the training aimed to improve client outcomes and ensure the delivery of high-quality legal services in the dynamic fields CLI operates in.
