On September 20th, 2024, the Certa Foundation, through its Center for Justice and Advocacy, conducted a vital capacity-building training for justice actors in Rwamagana District. This training focused on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) laws and effective case handling, aiming to equip participants with the necessary skills to support victims better.

The training brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including District Gender Officers, representatives from the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), Rwanda National Police (RNP), Isange One Stop Center (IOSC), the National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCDA), and Social Affairs representatives from various sectors within the district.

The training, which emphasizes a victim-centered approach, covered essential topics such as GBV laws, referral pathways, and effective case management. Participants learned the importance of gathering evidence, ensuring data protection, and managing cases from initial reporting to resolution.

Director of the Center for Justice and Advocacy, Muganyinka Lydia Taima, raised an important question during the training: “How do we refer our victims without exposing them to secondary victimization?” which highlighted the need for careful handling of cases to protect victims from further harm.

This training is part of the Certa Foundation's ongoing commitment to enhancing access to justice for GBV survivors. By equipping justice actors with essential tools and knowledge, we aim to create a more responsive system that prioritizes the needs of victims.

Together, we are working towards a future where victims of gender-based violence can seek justice without barriers, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are upheld. Certa Foundation remains dedicated to fostering collaboration among all stakeholders involved in combating GBV, reinforcing our shared responsibility in promoting safety and justice within our communities.

Through these efforts, we strive to build a stronger support network for victims of GBV, ensuring they receive the assistance they need while protecting their dignity and rights.
