Rwanda Bar Association's International Women's Day Celebration
The Center for Justice and Advocacy actively supported the organization of the Rwanda Bar Association's International Women's Day Celebration on March 15, 2024. The event, themed "Empowering her Voice, Celebrating Rwandan Women: Nurturing equality, leadership, and resilience," brought together approximately 500 legal professionals and featured a diverse panel of speakers. Certa Foundation’s Executive Director, Ms. Florida Kabasinga, and the Director of the Center for Justice and Advocacy, Ms. Lydia Taima Muganyinka, were among the notable speakers at the event.
During the celebration, Ms. Lydia Taima led a thought-provoking discussion on the gaps hindering diversity, inclusion and equal opportunities for women. She emphasized the importance of applying the 3Rs (recognizing, redistributing, and respecting) the role of women at household level to bridge the gender gap and challenge societal expectations regarding gender roles. Ms. Taima called for collective efforts to break free from traditional gender norms and encouraged collaboration between women and men, moving towards a more inclusive and supportive environment.
The panelists underscored the significance of fostering a culture of appreciation over criticism, urging women to uplift and support each other in personal and professional endeavors. Ms. Lydia highlighted the power of unity among women and men in achieving shared goals and overcoming obstacles that hinder women from reaching their full potential in the professional realm.
We are grateful to our strategic partner, the Rwanda Bar Association for demonstrating a commitment to empowering women, nurturing equality, and fostering leadership and resilience within the community. Together, let us continue championing gender equality, celebrating the achievements of Rwandan women, and creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.
