Strengthening Our Capacity to Serve: Internal Training at The Center for Justice and Advocacy
On September 26th, 2024, the Certa Foundation, alongside Kvinna till Kvinna, through its Program Center for Justice and Advocacy initiated a two-day internal training to strengthen of capacity to serve enhancing the capacity to deliver justice for victims of gender-based violence (GBV). This training underscores the organization's commitment to ongoing education and capacity building, which are fundamental to its mission, particularly for advocates dealing with GBV cases.
A significant aspect of the training was the introduction of a new Data Protection Code of Conduct. This initiative reflects the foundation's dedication to ensuring victim confidentiality and aligns with best practices in data protection.
Alongside the Code of Conduct, a new codification system was unveiled. This system aims to streamline processes and enhance the handling of sensitive information related to GBV cases.
Ms. Dative Uwizeyimana, a senior pro bono lawyer, emphasized the importance of the "Do No Harm" principle in their work. She stated, “It would be tragic if the harm to a victim came from their side,” reminding them that they must handle cases carefully to avoid causing further harm to victims. This training not only reinforces the foundation's commitment to victim support but also emphasizes the importance of data protection in advocacy work. The integration of these new systems is expected to significantly improve how advocates manage sensitive information while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality.
