Teen Mothers return to school for their last term in Senior 4.
At the beginning of the Teen mothers program, the goal of Certa Foundation was to uplift young women who have been faced with abuse, violence and economic hardships. These young women have seen what nobody their age should and still they have risen. Following the first calls we made to each teen mom to inform them that they would be returning to school and hearing them cry with heartfelt joy and excitement for the endless opportunities this step would mean to themselves and their families, this journey to healing, learning and growing began, it has had its hurdles, unmasking psychological trauma and dealing with consistent struggles of whether they belong or deserve another chance at making their dreams a reality.
Despite the hurdles faced by the teen mothers while adapting to their new reality, they have proven resilient, inquisitive and constantly working towards academic excellence. The reports from their teachers have been a testament to this growth; supporting each other to reach their highest potential, perfecting their English Language for those who were still having challenges with this aspect. The 1st Term of Senior 4 was one which presented the teen moms with an understanding of how to live in a new environment different from the one they had been used to for a long time. The 2nd Term was one where they were challenged to interact and associate themselves with fellow students, reaching out to teachers in instances where they were trying to better understand certain subjects and generally building their knowledge while exploring their different skills, demonstrating talent in sports, leadership, teamwork and social skills.
Each of the teen moms have expressed interest in their studies, love for learning and their hard work by going above and beyond in all spheres, reigniting the fire they once had and realizing that they can dream big again. As they begin their 3rd and final Term in Senior Four, we look forward to celebrating this milestone as they graduate to the next level, Senior Five.
