On November 29th, 2024, the Center for Justice and Advocacy at Certa Foundation, in collaboration with The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation, hosted a transformative awareness campaign at Gashora Girls Academy of Science and Technology. The session focused on the growing issue of Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) as part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against GBV campaign.

The event kicked off with Ms. Samiah Millycent, the dean of students at Gashora, emphasizing the role of youth in tackling TFGBV, calling on students to use the campaign to foster awareness and promote safe digital practices. She highlighted the reality of GBV in technological spaces and urged the students to consider their responsibility as future change-makers.

Ms. Laura Jeanne d’arc Kagina delivered an engaging presentation on the forms of TFGBV, such as deepfakes, sextortion, child pornography, and online harassment. She explained the real-life impacts of these issues and stressed the importance of digital literacy, ethics, and trust-building with supportive adults. She concluded by urging students to adopt ethical online behavior and equipped them with practical tools to navigate the digital space responsibly.

The Gashora Girls poetry team delivered a poignant performance titled “Technology,” creatively highlighting the dual nature of digital innovation, both its risks and its potential for positive transformation.

Closing the event, Ms. Mariza Latifah, Program Coordinator for Economic Gender Justice at Certa Foundation, reminded the students that knowledge paired with technology is the ultimate tool for change. Her closing remarks inspired the students to take an active role in raising awareness and creating safe digital spaces.

We extend our sincere thanks to the administration of Gashora Girls Academy for their continued support in making this impactful event a success as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against GBV.
