The Tinyuka Power Up Project: Pig Farming for women with disabilities in Musanze District
The Tinyuka Power Up Project is aimed at addressing the economic struggles of single mothers with disabilities in Musanze, Rwanda. These women have endured abuse and face significant challenges, including raising children born from such circumstances and overcoming social marginalization, which then makes them require extensive and holistic support.
On April 24th, 2024, the Center for Justice and Advocacy team initiated the establishment of a Pig Farm as a social enterprise within our ongoing support framework for teen and single mothers with disabilities in Musanze. The meeting convened to address several crucial elements, including articulating the venture's objectives to the participants, assessing the equitable distribution of proceeds, democratically electing a committee led by these women, and entrusting them with supervisory and leadership roles to ensure the project's long-term viability. This initiative is dedicated to promoting inclusivity and proactive engagement among all involved parties.

In line with the objectives of the Center for Justice and Advocacy, the Tinyuka Power Up Project aims to provide practical solutions to the economic implications of abuse and abandonment. By empowering the with sustainable livelihood opportunities, the project aims at restoring their autonomy and dignity. Through this initiative, the Tinyuka Power Up Project seeks to foster economic resilience and social inclusion among this vulnerable population.
The project will serve as a foundation for their entrepreneurial initiatives and savings groups, spanning various sectors such as tailoring, poultry farming, and market trading. These ventures are positioned to empower the participants towards financial freedom and self-reliance. The Center for Justice and Advocacy is dedicated to imparting financial expertise through structured training sessions, emphasizing on the fundamental principles of financial literacy such as earning, saving, investing, risk management, expenditure, and borrowing.
The Project stands as an additional support to the ongoing Access to Justice Program, spearheaded by Certa Foundation. For the past two years, this program has provided pro bono legal aid services to teen and single mothers with disabilities in Musanze. Through various legal channels such as mediation, numerous cases have been successfully resolved. The primary objective remains to uphold and protect the rights of these women, ensuring their fair treatment and access to justice within the community.
